My hair is color dark brown, and i used a permanent color "medium ash brown", then i highlighted it with golden blonde highlights. But some parts are too highlighted and it looks like all the hair is blonde. I want to make them be a color light brown. You could do a reverse frosting/highlight. Usually done by hairdressers, they take sections of hair and color it darker. Think of a frosting.....only making it darker instead of blonde. This may help. I wouldn't play with too much home colors though, if the color isn't what you want. You could inadvertantly make it worse.

use a darker blond toner (buy it at a beauty supply store and ask them how to use it). They have all shades of blond from carmel to platinum.

An ash color has a green base to it( I believe), so adding a golden color will only make your hair more yellowy, or it will really accentuate the green base in the ash. Which you don't want.

You should probably hit up your local beauty store (i.e. Sallys) and pick up something with a nuetral base to it. Personally, if I were you, I would pick up a neutral light brown. And never be afraid to ask the employees a question! Trust me, they'll be more than happy to help you.
