Did I ruin my hair?

I have really dark hair. Like Asian black. I tried to dye my hair red and instead of tinting my hair reddish or actually dying it red, it dyed only my roots and baby hair red. And I mean Ginger red while the rest of my hair is still black as ever. I still want to get to the same red color as my roots are now. Can a salon do this? Or will they just have to dye my roots black?

Go to a salon and tell them what you want done. Only they can tell you whether they can do it or not. We don't know their potential.

a salon can get the color u want. they have to bleach it out first then dye it.

hahahaha, sorry. you should have bleached it first to strip the colour. go to a salon to fix.

i seriously did the EXACT SAME THING.

i dyed my hair black, then wanted to go lighter, so i put the bleach through all my hair, and only my one-inch regrowths went lighter (they turned out a medium-light auburn)

apparently you need a 'de-colourant' hair bleach to dye your hair lighter over permanent colour.
